http://www.citypress.co.za/news/community-left-reeling-police-kill-2-looters/

on the 3rd of december last year officers of the South African Police Services (SAPS) fired live ammunition at an unarmed crowd of people who were attempting to collect some rice (and apparently sugar too) which had fallen off of a delivery truck and as a result 2 people were killed. those people weren’t killed because they were looting - billions of rands worth of looting happens everyday behind the closed glass doors of corporate south africa. people who’ve inherited stolen money are still stealing even more money from the same people who their mothers and fathers before them stole from with absolutely no repercussions from the law whatsoever. those people weren’t killed because they were stealing, they were killed because they were black and poor. and in south africa we can tolerate you being black, but not even black people can effectively mask their hatred those that are black AND poor. and the police are there to enforce the hatred passed down onto them by us. the police aren’t here to enforce the law, they’re here to protect the interests of white minority capital.

and we live in a country where money (even in the form of a fucking staple food such as rice) is infinitely more valuable than a black life.

i know the story is a bit old as far as news cycles go, but there’s no time limit applied to how long the the patriarchal, capitalist, white supremacist machine can continue to murder and oppress people, so why should my grief have one?

hopefully i won't be doing any more pieces like this this year.

take care,
