Landscape Topology

The main goal of this project is to create interesting topology which is organized in such a way that it represents real-life landscapes. The method used is a ‘cloning’ technique which literally duplicates a simple cube many times onto a surface. The height of each cube is linked to a simple image that acts as a map to determine the height of the displacement. For the natural composition a gradient color is used onto each cube; starting from blue, and becoming more white the higher a cube becomes, depicting altitudes from sea-level to mountains. Ultimately, the result can be infinitely detailed – it all depends on the amount of duplicates and the detail of the displacement image.
