Letterworks | March 2015

Typography
I realize I have not posted here in a while. I call this collection "Letterworks"…but they are both play and work. All tools: broad-edge pen, brushes, pointed, ruling pen and even a few that I have digitized. I will be teaching a class in many that is 50/50 between hand-made and then digital. Letters are around us everywhere and I enjoy all of the possible expressions or voices one can do to communicate messages with feeling.
Logotype for International Lettering/Calligraphy Conference
A fun little birthday card for a good friend.
Calligraphic document. Arches paper, gouache, watercolor, ink, 23k gold leaf.
Part of a wedding design package.
Watercolor on Japanese rice paper (Washi). Commissioned quote.
Brush written on paper with watercolor.
Another playful birthday card. Gouache on Canson dark blue paper.
This is an older work, but I recently gave a lecture and wanted to show slide so that audience can get an idea of the size of writing. This has to be mentioned over and over as folks cannot really know what they are looking at with all the digital manipulation. When I have a smaller audience, I can always show the original. That always explains things the best.
Could not get this song out of my head for a while!
A page from my book: Scribe. It is an example of rhythmic writing with a hybrid brush approach.
More documents. What can I say, I like writing.
Letters at work and letters at play. I have been doing many projects that I cannot share because of nda, but for now, I will post this collection.
