Methodology Creation
Interviews

Survey/ Interview Design
Semantic Differential Scales

PROBLEM:
Students were asked to conduct initial design research to understand a problem space. Collaborative teams of Interior Design, Industrial Design, and Visual Design students worked together to come up with an idea, objective, and conduct research. My team's goal was to determine how people interact with space and layout at North Market. The North Market is a collection of local farmer's markets, food vendors, and shops under one roof in teh downtown area.

PROCESS:
Survey
Open-ended Interviews
Place Mapping
Closed Ended questionnaire

ROLE:
Survey Creation
Observations
Place Mapping
Interviewer
Analysis
Presentation

FINAL DELIVERABLES:
The team presented their final research results to classmates. The process taught us about various research processes such as interviews, observations, and place mapping.
QUANTITATIVE RESULTS:
Quantitative results came from a semantic differentials scale completed by interview participants.
EVALUATION
A final evaluation of the North Market space was created based on the criteria of useful, usable, and desirable.
MAPPING
Mapping activities helped us see which areas of the market were busiest at the times we were observing. We felt that our observation time was too limited and should be conducted on multiple days at various times to observe true patterns.
