Blow Weakness and Loneliness Away

-Idea Generation
During the trip to the Block Island, I found something interesting and I hardly noticed before.

In the strong wind of Block island, I feel lonely and weak. It’s like I’m a little sand in the sea and I should try really hard to control myself or I would sway by the huge wind just like the reed marshes.

I want to do something about my loneliness and weakness caused by the wind. Since I can’t see the wind directly, I chose the swaying of reed marshes and wave of water as the substantial form of wind. So if there were some restrictions that make the reed marshes and water keep steady when there is wind, the people in this environment would feel less weak and fragile.

Then I try to analysis it in two directions: micro-to-micro. One micro direction is to view it in microscopic way. Maybe it’s the cell or molecular in the fish or leaf make the water or reed marshes sway. In another direction, maybe it’s the whole universe’s shaking make the planet shake, and the planet shake the city, city shake the ground and the ground make the water or reed marshes sway. So if I can add restriction to the microscopic world or universe, I could create a safe environment.

-Research
I went to the Ladd Observatory of Brown University to seek for inspiration. Then I noticed that scientists always try to figure out the component of other planets, which remind me the concept of 5 Elements in China culture. The ancient Chinese between internal organs, and from the succession of political regimes to used it to explain a wide array of phenomena, from cosmic cycles to the interaction the properties of medicinal drugs. [1] The "Five Phases" are Wood (木 mù), Fire (火 huǒ), Earth (土 tǔ), Metal (金 jīn), and Water (水 shuǐ). This order of presentation is known as the "mutual generation" (相生xiāngshēng ) sequence. [1] And they also have "mutual overcoming" (相克xiāngkè)relation between each other.

The Picture below is the detail of five element and the order when put them in a line.
They look like suspend in mid-air, seem fragile and week. But actually I hang them in the ceiling with transparent fishing line to make sure they won’t sway too much when there is wind. And I also tied stones, which I collected near the beach of Block Island, up in one side of white hemp rope and tied rope’s another side to the bottom of each element to make it steady visually.
