The Forbidden Fruit

The Forbidden Fruit
This project was an art installation which, essentially, portrays the whole confusion between “Right and Wrong”. The indecisiveness and confusion involved in choosing between two paths to achieve the best outcome and the resulting frustration. The existence of an aspiration that drives a person towards achieving a goal and the contemporaneous fear involved in deviating from the correct path, which could possibly lead to failure. Majorly highlighting external influences, which could either push a person toward a goal or pull them back. For example, parents try to guide a child, based on their past experiences saying they are more knowledgeable in dealing with certain circumstances. These external factors either help the person in making his decisions or they create a feeling of confusion in him/ her; he may not know whether to follow his own heart and instinct or follow someone’s advice based on their past experiences. This causes a conflict in the person and the guilt and sense of regret could torment that person.
The concept behind the installation was driven by a detailed analysis of the artist Egon Schiele, who spent most of his life trying to understand and express himself. His works were directly related and affected by his psyche and his relationships. Using his work and style as an inspiration, I created the art installation, through which I tried to explore myself and the factors that influence me and my decisions.

The visual journal containing my research on Egon Schiele, too was designed on his personality and character. It is a compartamentalized aggregate of the instances of Egon Schiele's life, including his background, family, relationships, education and position in society. It is like a box whose contents are not open to everybody as it comprises some secrets and taboos. It is like a chest to which only the artist himself holds the key.
The compiled research helped me in coming up with the concept for my art installation, The Forbidden Fruit.
