In New York City and in cities across the world, thousands gathered to show support for those affected by the terrorist attack against the Charlie Hedbo office in Paris. In spite of the extremely cold weather, a mixed crowd of French, Americans, and other nationalities poured into NYC's Union Square to honor the victims and the French people, as well as to defend freedom of expression from those who would use terror as a means of control. An irate man confronts a woman silently holding a sign at National Moment of Silence For Victims of Police Brutality 2014 in NYC. After giving her the finger and swearing, several woman intervene and create a human shield between the man and the vigil attendee. (Union Square, NYC - 8/15/2014)
A small group of animal rights activists have been protesting the sale of fur on the streets of NYC. The demonstration turned heated when the vendors make claims that the activists were harassing them and call the police. In the time I was there, it was the vendors who were belligerent, as can be seen in this short video. (May contain language not suitable for work.)
The vendors in this video were arrested in December 2014 for pouring buckets of bleach and ammonia on protesters and pedestrians, including a baby.
