The Law School attempts to mediate between the University’s expanding City West campus and the infamously heady Hindley Street precinct. The previous university campus developments gave impetus to consider how the building would counterbalance both contemporary and conserved architectures. Consideration was given early in the schematic design phase to providing an open ground plane, countering the impenetrable existing façade. The proposal passes the building back to the students by providing a highly public programme at ground level, creating an openness and transparency previously non-existent between the Law school and the surrounding City West campus.
