Artist Statement
Those fleeting moments of transition from a bud to a full bloom, from a cocoon to a butterfly are as or perhaps more beautiful than the finality of that process. As human beings it is within this time of transformation wherein innocence is interlaced with fascinating discoveries, when changes unravel beautifully and a sense that the world is wider becomes inevitable.
Florescentia is the Latin word for blooming; from a bud to a bloom. And in this collection of graphite and watercolour pieces, that message is undeniably felt. It is a feeling of flourishing that one gets from the subtlety emanating from these works. Within this storytelling there is also an expression of forlorn, veiling oneself from unneeded distractions and death. Singing the truth of every creature’s existence, that with beginning there is also an end.
This being Feril’s first solo exhibition, much is put out there and a beautiful vulnerability that is very honest enhances the decadence of his works. It is also a transitional time for the artist himself to be showing his personal art to the world, and also for the first time producing this many. However there is a quiet confidence and a certainty in his mastery of his craft that says he is more than ready. Now, one can only watch and anticipate with delightful expectation.
Selected Pieces
I've always been known for my digital commercial works and one of my goals in producing these pieces is to introduce the other side of me opposite to what I do as a designer & illustrator. All 14 pieces, the largest is 22 x 30 inches are all hand-drawn and is also the most number of traditional works that I have created in a span of 2 months. Unexpectedly, I never thought all of these were sold out during the opening day.
I hope you enjoy all these artworks and hoping this will inspire you to close our computers & drop our tablets for a while to pick-up those pencils and start sketching. :)
