The following is a collection of digital paintings and illustrations I’ve completed over the past several years using Adobe Photoshop. Below some of the more recent works are short videos illustrating the creation process. Hope you enjoy and thanks for taking the time to look.

T H E S E C O N D H A N D H E R E A F T E R

In his article that examined why people are drawn to yard sales, author John Winters posits “if in a consumerist society we live through our stuff, ensuring its afterlife is a way to deal with our existential dread.” This idea resonated with me and I wondered why objects are sold secondhand and not merely thrown away? I imagined instances when a sale is necessary to unburden oneself to facilitate a move, which lead to thoughts about journeys that are difficult to plan or predict, notably a journey to the beyond. I thought about the sorts of items I’ve collected that are far from heirlooms and wondered: what will come of them when I’m gone? If pieced together, could a scant assortment of useless things tell a story of who I was? Of my origins? Or would they simply be evidence that I was an irresponsible consumer. Ultimately, this piece explores our legacy as consumers and what we pass on into the secondhand hereafter.

This image represents a lament for outdated technology left in the wake of innovation. I imagined that the payphone at the top of the staircase was an ancient monument; a detached remnant from the past that the boy is attempting to reconnect with his offering.
