The Treasures They Hold

Little boys' pockets hold
amazing things-
Fish worms, apple cores,
a mess of string,
But this treasure is nothing
to the wealth one finds
In little boys' hearts and little
boys' minds.

This spring/summer 2014 collection, entitled “The Treasures They Hold,” was initially inspired by the paintings of Norman Rockwell. Rockwell had such a magnificent way of capturing the spirit of American youth, especially in the 1950’s. I was drawn specifically to the mischievous nature of little boys depicted in Rockwell’s paintings. Boys can get into such trouble, but they often do in such a way that you have to love them for it! It became evident while looking at more of Rockwell’s paintings that little boys are always in need of more pockets, and so that is the direction in which my collection became geared towards.
My concept is to provide boys with enough pockets to carry all their treasures in while still remaining practical for children. I wanted to channel the 1950’s Norman Rockwell boy in a modern fashion. My fabrics are limited to cotton content so that each garment can be washed with no qualms. I designed many pieces with patches to reinforce knees and elbows in the event of a tumble. My target customer ranges from toddlers to ten year olds. I would focus on the rising hipster parent generation as potential buyers, as they generally enjoy vintage-inspired clothing.
“The Treasures They Hold” is a collection that incorporates new silhouettes in childrenswear, and also provides enough fun and useful pockets for any child to enjoy. Little boys can continue to hold their treasures in their pockets, as they hold such delightful treasures in themselves.

Happy viewing!
