Howling Wolf - Rakija Drinking Table

Howlin Wolf - Rakija Drinking Table

The purpose of this project was to make a table that will suite the needs for rakija drinking - the traditional spirit of Macedonia.

Rakija is a very strong spirit usualy 50-60 % Alchohol and when a person drinks too much of it tends to either fall asleep or howl like a wolf - hense the name of this piece.

We used soft boards for the top of the table, then hard wood for the base and we refurbished 65 years old Wine Barrel boards for the legs.
We recycled an old army belt into bottle holder - cuz it looks freaking nice all combined.
Main dimensions measured for 4 persons are: 65 cm diamter and 70 cm in height - it fits most of the chairs available, also it feels realy good if you are seating on a couch or even a small chair.

I had a great deal of help for this project from my brother and my cousin and I'm very greatefull for that!

Hope you like this and my other projects!
Thank you!
The process started by cutting the wood boards to the specific dimensions(square 60x60 cm) and gluing them together. After 24 hours of drying we measured "a perfect circle" and cut it through.
After all of that was finished, I put and traced the previously done illustration (wolf from google, everything else in illustrator :D) onto the boards, sanded the main circle with 180 grit and started with burning - and couple of hours later, voila! Burning finished, and we're ready for the next stage.
These are the legs for the table.
The legs are refurbished 65 years old Wine Barrel boards. We sanded them quite a bit, took them to my cousin(last image) and he made them all straight and nice; after that, we connected them with the base using wood glue and screws;
Finnaly the legs and the table are connected together using wood glue and screws.
I made a frame around the upper part of the table using leftovers from the boards I bought. I cut the 1 cm thick and 4 cm in lenght. After that I used the grinder to give them chamfered corners and finnaly I achieved the look of a mechanical Gear! My brother worked his magic with the chisels and made holes for the glasses - 7 mm in depth so when you put a rakia glass inside it doesn't move at all! :D
And finnaly a little bit burning with gas torch here and there and that's it for this phase.
Now let's put couple of coats of laquer on it!
After all this is a Rakija Drinking Table, so we thought it would be very nice to have something that will hold the bottle in reach; so we used an old army belt, screwed it to one of the legs and we put a little piece of wood underneath to keep it from falling. I think it goes realy good with the style of the table and it can fit various sizes of bottles!
This is how the rakija glasses look like when on the table - notice the holes in the tables specialy made for the glasses. So even when you are drunk as f**k the rakija will be safe and sound merged with the table :D
Here is everything set up and ready to drink, only the salad is left out(sorry for that)
Here is the full size of the table, measuring 70 cm in height and 65 cm in diametar. It fits most of the seating positions wheater you are seating on normal chair, couch, a small chair etc.
