MOK JEWELLERY
Jewellery design by Mirna O. Kerr
This project started from how I see different functions to object that are all around us and my enjoyment of the process of making jewellery. By removing this object from their usual environment I want to show that they can have more than one function and I find it interesting to think about the reaction of people when they notice the material that I use.
I'm inspired from the objects that are in daily use in our lives and with all of them I have personal connection. It might be obvious to some that my earrings are made from egg cup or necklace from baby measuring spoons and this is also a purpose of my design, to initiate interaction and analyse the reaction in people, maybe even change a point of view or at least get an ironic smile.
Some might say this is recycled jewellery but I see it rather as giving new life and scenes to everyday objects, and although my jewellery is made from these objects it is a completely new design in the end.
Jewellery in my eyes is something to uplift the soul and give a smile to the wearer and viewer, and for this purpose the material is insignificant.
Some of this jewellery was made during my education of applied arts.  Now I have finished and have a B.A. of Fine Arts and M.A. in Art Education and now I look forward to my possibilities in the design field.
