Dished - mobile app

"Forget where to eat. Think what to eat.
Forget restaurants. Think dishes."
Goal
Build a social food app that solves the problem that current Yelp/Urbanspoon users face. Often times, users visit a 4/5 restaurant, but end up ordering a 2/5 dish. A more user-engaging app that focuses on specific dishes will lead to more quality reviews and more satisfying dining experiences.
The sign in screen looks simple and clean, which will be the theme for this app's UI. The thin lines and typography contirbute to the overall clean look. The logo relates to the objective of the app and consists of a dish, a fork, and a knife. It is also designed to look like a capital "D" for "Dished".

Two main colors used are orange and light grey - almost white. This color choice, again, relates back to food. Orange is commonly known as the most appetizing color and dishes are often presented in white plates to fully display the vibrant colors of the food.

The sign in screen includes social sign in buttons, which now have become a trend. Social sign in makes the sign up process a whole lot easier for new users and it allows us to collect some basic data about the users.

Add Dish
One of the main functionalities of the app is to add a review of a dish. Having dish-specific reviews instead of a restaurant reviews is already an improvement in recommending users what to eat rather than where to eat. To encourage users to add more quality dish reviews, a social aspect must be part of the app. This can be achieved by allowing a user to add a picture of the dish. Sharing a picture of the dish, not just the review, with others will engage the user more.
The whole process of adding a review will be kept simple and easy. After taking a picture, the user will be led to screen above in which the user can rate the dish out of 5 stars (with swipe motion) and enter the name of the dish. The four circles at the bottom represent the number of fields that need to be filled out and the user can reach the next field either by clicking on the arrow or simply swiping. The four fields will be: name, price, restaurant, and comment (optional).
This is the third input field in which the app will auto-detect the user's location and auto-fill the restaurant name and the city. Just in case the auto-detection is not correct, there is an option for the user to edit the location himself.
Project Status
I will continue creating mock-ups and make sure the app boasts beautiful, clean UI and smooth UX. A couple of my friends will be responsible for the development process. This post will be updated as the project advances. Hopefully, we can present a prototype in near future!
