In 2009, James Cameron invited Grierson onto the set of ‘Avatar’ to discuss the 3D cave-diving drama, Sanctum. Cameron thought Kokoda demonstrated Grierson would be able to handle the genre and technical challenges that Sanctum would throw up - shooting in 3D, in zero light conditions and often underwater in caves. The story had been inspired by the near-death experience of producer, Andrew Wight, who had once been trapped in a terrifying cave collapse under the Nullarbor Plain.
