Philippine Art in Spain

Discovering Philippine Art in Spain
Artistic gems from the over 300-year-old relationship between the Philippines and Spain are together in a precious tome for the first time. Almost 400 photographs of treasures and rich data from at least 85 cultural institutions in 16 Spanish autonomous regions.

This book is published in celebration of the Centennial of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence, June 12, 1998 and the Centennial of the Founding of the Department of Foreign Affairs, June 23, 1998.
Cover

The cover highlights the different type of masterpieces of Philippine art found in museums all over Spain. Starky set against black, the pieces loom forward to represent a host of other major works waiting to be discovered in this book.

Rocha's "India Filipina" (from the Museo de Bellas Artes de Cordoba) is so inspiring as a front cover material that it evokes a portrait of Philippine nationhood, garbed in the flag's national colors.
