Mac for Dummies - handmade book cover

BRIEF: Re-imagine an existing book cover design using only handmade methods (away from the computer).
MY SELECTION: Mac For Dummies, by Edward C. Baig.
I chose this book in order to poke fun at myself as someone who, prior to learning graphic design, had worked only on PC and in Microsoft Office products. This project is also a nod to my dad who, upon buying his first Mac LC 500 in 1994, could not get his head around what a ‘mouse’, ‘rubbish bin’ or ‘desktop’ could be out of the context of ‘the real world’. I also think it is a book cover from a series which looks extremely dated and could do with a re-style.
PROCESS: I decided to portray the functional elements of Macs and their creative software as ‘real life’ objects which were set up as a still life arrangement. I gave them a Mac ‘finish’ by spraypainting them entirely in matt white and setting them against a soft grey background–the typical colour palette of Apple Inc.
