Steady improvements over the pasttwo decades have been recorded in developing regions, with the exception ofSub-Saharan Africa, which still lags far behind. In 1990, the access to watersources, as a percentage of the total population, was a poor 49%, whichincreased to only 53% by the year 2000, and 60% by 2008. Judging by these slowtrends, Sub-Saharan Africa is unlikely to achieve the MDG’S target.
