Shining a Light on Sustainability

Investigation of methodology, process, and implementation of the textual and visual message through research, analysis, and synthesis of elements purposefully derived from disciplines external to art and
design—a specific focus is on the sciences.

In early September, a graduate student in Food Policy and Applied Nutrition presented a current research
project focused on the development and organization of sustainable diet guidelines. Wewere enrolled to
analyze and organize the existing and extensive collection of research and to develop visualization concepts
for a complex web of information and perspectives related to sustainability and sustainable diet.

The project is still in-progress, and this installation, while at a consummate point of presentation, is reflective
of this. As designers—and associates in the research—our intent and hope is to shed light on the intricacy
of the subject matter, contribute to our scientific partners’ process, and, perhaps move all toward a point of
clarity and understanding.
