The brief was to design and output a cocktail recipe book for Vin Bouquet, an international cocktail shaker brand. The book itself is called Twelve and includes 12 guilt-free cocktail recipes from around the globe. The book boasts a clean, minimal layout with a strong focus on typography and vivid photography. For my final hand-in I mocked up the hardcover book, iPad DPS in both horizontal and vertical formats, double-sided recipe cards (5inx5in) and an A3 poster.
Every cocktail has it's own hand-lettered type for it's heading. I researched different typography from around the world, pencil-sketched each title, scanned and brought through to Illustrator. For some styles I have live-traced and cleaned up the edges to keep a somewhat hand-drawn quality, and for others I have traced with the pen tool.
All images (except cocktail shaker on page 7/ page 3 on DPS version) are my own, taken with my Canon 550D. All hand-lettering is my own. Text is adapted from Kate Morrin's '13 Cocktails from Around the World' blog post.
Final book mock-up printed on 160gsm matte paper stock, with 100gsm matte paper cover folded around cover cards. Book bound using saddle-stitch binding technique. Double-sided recipe cards printed on 300gsm matte paper stock.
