ARTIST STATMENT
‘Entrails’ has taken shape from a collection of recycled objects that have been found in and around the home, on the street and from local opportunity stores. My primary collection of objects derive from rubber in some way; some being 100% rubber and others incorporating elements of rubber. My aim was to connect the objects through the materiality of rubber; these include hard rubber, rubber-bands, latex sheeting, bicycle inner tubes, tyres, solar heating panels (for swimming pools), balloons and a reflective traffic cone. Also intergrated into the final work are plastic clips, two bicycle wheels and quick release wheel axles.
My spontaneous processes began with nothing, not an image or concept in mind. I have literally sat with each of my objects and allowed them to connect with me through touch, smell, colour, memories and functionality. I have deconstructed and reconstructed toys, inflated and deflated balloons and bicycle tubes, glued, cut and laced latex sheeting, drilled, screwed, nailed, riveted, stretched, squashed, tied and sewn through each phase of construction.
‘Entrails’ takes you on a thought provoking journey that explores time, motion and escapism. It aims to engage the viewer through the familiarity of objects and invites one to investigate the details that lay within.
