paprika grow box

The main designation of paprika grow box is to be a souvenir-like object, that nourishes active relationship with its buyer/owner, giving the packaging a new function during daily use. This practical function helps its owner to stay in contact with his/her memories by recalling them day-by-day.
The box contains every item for growing a local type of chili pepper. On the illustrations one type, the hungarian paprika kit is shown, but the product range consists of another 5 type of famous chili pepper, like jalapeno and habanero.
After opening the box, the user just has to add water to the mixture of vermiculite and seeds, then nurse the seedling following the attached guidance to get the desired yield. Finally the dried peppers can be stored or handed away in the closed box.
The packaging is an important part of the product that also stays in use after the purchase of the item: by dividing the two open sided box, one part becomes the pot of the plant, while the other part functions as a lockup storage box, and a dish for serving the dried peppers at the table.
The bottom part that serves as a pot for the plant, is made of waxed cardboard, and folded gapless to avoid leakege of water. This part contains the mixture of vermiculite soil and pepper seeds.
The other part of the box becomes a lockup tetraeder box when closed, which can be used for storing and serving or as a giftbox.
Most part of the packaging gets a new function during use, thus less waste is generated after purchasing it.
The project has won the Hungaropack Student 2014 award.

The project has received WoldStar Student Awards 2014 – Certificate of Recognition.
