Matter can ultimately be converted into energy.

 

This was our main premise when designing the Matter lamp, a study on the relation and states of matter as it can be changed from one form to another. Matter in the form of positrons and electrons can be changed into photons, hence the Matter lamp’s solid and light elements.

 

Made from black concrete disks that intersect with wooden structures, the Matter lamp continues our experimentation with concrete’s peculiar aesthetics while generating a spherical shape and structure that alludes to the design’s scientific foundation. Its manufacturing brings together the old and new, by combining industrial craftsmanship and CNC precision.
