I was background designer for this project but I also did some character design and created the design for what would be the game’s final boss. I came up with the idea of creating two versions of each level. The first would be shrouded in pollution and smog. This version of the level would contain enemy creatures to fight and level up from. At the end of each level the player would have to overcome a strong level end boss. After defeating the boss this would free the level from pollution and open up secret areas to gain access to rare items and equipment. I also created the idea of having the game contain the environmental theme.

The before and after look for the Factory Level. coal is dropped from tracks when the player character first enters the level. Steam and cogs are all moving. The factory line stops once the boss is defeated at the end.
The design for the first level is located in pastoral land. Once the levels boss is defeated the smog is cleared. This will also open up previous areas that were hidden from the player for replay ability purposes. Certain environmental designs also change from the bent, broken and twisted forms they had from being corrupted during the level when it was polluted.

This is an early sketch of the end game boss. I took inspiration for this from publisher team Icos Shadow of the Colossus game which contains fantastic designs for their many boss battle creatures.
These are a collection of my backgrounds showcasing the various locations and possible designs for the end game boss.
This was one of my designs for a fully equipped playable character. Each part of his armour would be created from the rubbish that could be picked up during the gameplay.
