Who are Linn?
Linn design and make the worlds highest quality sound systems. Their flagship product the Sondek LP12 record player was first launched in 1972, it founded the company and set a new standard in high end HiFi. Extracting the maximum information from a record is what the Sondek LP12 has been doing for nearly 40 years, making it the longest-lived hi-fi product still in production anywhere in the world, and the benchmark by which all other turntables are judged.

4c Design Delivers
Linn approached 4c Design and asked us to provide extra engineering drafting resources to augment their R&D department too meet a launch deadline. This required an experienced SolidWorks CAD user and somebody who understand the underlying principles and constraints within the LP12.
4c worked closely alongside their in house team to engineer a stable and rigid subchassis, allowing the arm and cartridge to dig more from the vinyl source.
The Linn engineers identified components within the turntable that could be improved if they where machined from billet. The logic was to increase rigidity, and remove any damping that was in the existing system by reducing the number of joints in the system, and making the parts from one homogenous material. The challenge for 4c Design was to design these parts so they could be manufactured whilst keeping within stringent requirements for component functionality, weight and centre of gravity.

On bestowing this highly prestigious award the EISA Jury commented, "When Linn introduced the LP12 in 1972, a legend was born. After several previous upgrades, now the LP12 SE marks a new chapter in the history of this landmark product. The LP12 SE assumes a place among the world's best vinyl players, providing one of the most impressive high-end audio experiences available."
The Keel signalled the start of Linn returning to support the LP12, no product upgrades had been done for 15 years. Since the success of the Keel, Linn have done several other upgrade products - Ekos SE, Radikal, Uphorik, and Urika.
