In April of 2012, after having been laid off two months previously and subsequently finding myself wondering what to do with myself while looking for work, I set for myself the task of creating a personal blog section of my website, and uploading a new illustration at least three times a week. After a couple weeks I quickly found myself foundering in the sort of self-doubt and boredom that comes along with a prolonged period of doing jobs you're not particularly enthused about, a state I'm convinced every designer winds up in at least once in their life. Thus this project morphed into a serious effort to create a new illustration each an every day simply to keep myself drawing. It didn't matter what the subject, style or technique was, so long as it was an illustration I was genuinely excited and interested in working on. It had to be something that even at my most cynical, if I saw it hanging on a wall somewhere, done by some other artist, I would stop and say, "damn that's cool." If there is any connective visual link between all the art in this collection, it is simply that it's solely mine.
This is the first of what I hope will be many collections of select illustrations over the course of the next few months before I leave on an extended military training trip.
