Brief: The theme I chose is Women Rights.

With my design Girls Rule, I was inspired by my interest in sport and how it promotes character for women in our world. Sport is an integral part of the culture of almost every nation. However, it can promote gender equality and empower girls and women.

Empowerment in this sense refers to the process through which women gain the confidence, strength and in some contexts the information and skills, needed to make strategic choices to improve their lives. In short “do you want to be a dumb woman or a smart lady?”

In the creation of the design I wanted to include a ‘begin’ and an ‘end’, so I chose a diptych approach for the work. The first canvas displays a “VAROOM!” smoke cloud and the other display an African woman zoom across shouting “GIRLS RULE’” (giving it a ‘Free Spirited’ look).

Visually I used objects to create impact to the viewer and engage their senses and drew inspiration from past and present comic and graphic novels. Designed in Adobe Illustrator.
