Vardø is a town which rises on a island (Vardøya) in the extreme northeastern part of Norway.
The town suffered a big economic crisis that leaded to a massive exodus and a long period of pessimism. Because of the emigration a lot of buildings and houses were abandoned and let to decay.
Nowadays people of Vardø are trying to “restore” the town, starting from their buildings and their heritage.
Although I come from the always sunny and warm south of Italy, I felt right away connected with this project and the marvelously hard working people of the nordic Vardø.
