Cauchemar: Spectral Shapes on Infrared
Short CGI Film
Music by Holy Similaun, Seraphim, DJ YTP and Ronce
Banished by their own creation, their omnipresent haven, the inhabitants launch an exploration probe into the Zone-like megastructure they themselves have interweaved the surrounding horizon with. A successful navigation of its density and comprehension of the restless imagery it relays can, hopefully, reclaim the unruly behemoth – an operation to capture its sudden, volatile incomprehensibility – a frantic attempt to regain control.
Chimeric by its very nature, Cauchemar: Spectral Shapes on Infrared approaches the forms of music video and sci-fi parable in sync. The video’s themes emerge, as if refracted by this very quality embedded within – the omnipresent navigation through the vaguely dense, derelict Zone is just as restless as the images its capture attempts to produce, leaving the viewer at the periphery of its construction of the world.
All this operates in favor of the video's main focus (and character) – the probe. Enmeshed within planet-spanning urban structures, attempting to reclaim the retina from its mutations of the invisual, and partaking in an almost too human of an ambition – to finally understand the world, even if through an irreversible epistemological capture of its latent volatility.
