Combination: Is the concept of bringing different elements together to create something new, exciting and unique.
For this concept I combined cherries and pearls. I felt like the shape of the cherries lended well to the shape of the pearls. I used Adobe Photoshop to edit and color the image to make it more rich in color and almost eletric feeling. The image reminds me of something you might see on an 80s rock band album.
Change of Environment: Moving an object from one setting to another by altering it's meaning, significance, or function.
For this concept, I incorporated the Pearl into the Avacado as the pit to represent that valuable change can be found in the most unexpected places. I used Adobe Photoshop to change the color of the white Pearl to dark brown and then enhanced the vibrancy of the overall image to emphasize healthy, fun change.
Material Change, Swap or Focus: Altering the meaning, significance, or emphasis of one material to another to reveal a new perspective.
For this concept, I wanted to incorporate the Black Pearl with the tire to create almost a pupil-and-eye effect, along with the cement drainage pipe to emphasize focusing on what's important. I used Adobe Photoshop to combine the images and enhance the coloring.
Isolation: Placing an object in a setting where it stands alone or separate from its usual surroundings.
In this concept, it seemed like a natural transition to have the Pearl in place of the Sun since it's shiny and much sought after, but it is usually found alone glowing. I used Adobe Photoshop to combine the images and then enhance them to create softness and warmth and to show the luster of the Pearl.
Juxtaposition: Contrasting objects to highlight their differences and create irony or tension.
In this concept, I felt like the Pearl paired well with the bowling alley because of its shape, but the irony of a Pearl being that big or of using something so precious to do this sort of activity seemed almost crazy. I used Adobe Photoshop to combine the images and enhance the colors, shapes, and textures.
Metaphor or Simile: Figurative language suggesting a resemblance or comparison between two unrelated things.
For this concept, the shape of the Pearl lent itself to the shape of the lollipop and would be something very desirable. I used Adobe Photoshop to combine the images and enhance colors to make them more vibrant and fun. I wanted to give that fun 60s vibe.
Physical Shape Similarity: Drawing attention to the resemblance between two objects based on their physical shape.
In this concept, which was the first I imagined, was a no-brainer. Since childhood, I have thought bubblegum always looked like a giant pearl. I used Adobe Photoshop to combine the images and enhance the overall colors to give that fun and youthful 80s vibe from when I was a teenager.
