This is a design for a typography assignment in my Graphic Design class at Liberty University. One of my favorite songs is Love Feels Like by TobyMac. As a Christian, sometimes the happy phrase “love thy neighbor” is a hard thing to follow when people do not show Jesus love right back. Everyone hypes up love as this beautiful and easy thing when sometimes it is not so easy. Real love is hard but it is what gets marriages through fifty years and dreams from an idea to an accomplishment. This definition of love is what I wanted to convey through my design. Love in action can result in being bruised up, broken, hurt, and bandaged but it still conveys love and is “still givin’”. I wanted every word in this lyric to be felt, so I emphasized the “poured”, made the “used up” as a used up battery, stretched the width of the word of “stretching”, and bruised up the “love” with bandages, tape, arrows, and cracks in the letters.
