A Table to Perform Magic Tricks

This project aims to design and manufacture a small foldable table of 34 inches height that will be used to perform magic tricks for magicians. The magician will ask a person from the crowd to write something on a paper and put that on the table with writing facing down. There is a box in the center of the table containing a camera that will live feed the video on a hidden screen and the magician will tell what is written on the paper.

My task was to design this table and make sure it meets the specifications required for the job i.e. compact, portable, foldable and has a hidden camera chamber. I designed it from aluminium pipes to make it lightweight and used the scissors mechanism for ease of folding. First we produced a few prototypes to optimise the design while being in constant communication with the client and when the design was finally sorted we recieved our first order for the production of 50 tables. This order also included the production of bags that will contain these tables after they are folded so they can be carried easily.

After we bought the material, we started the cutting of raw material. For drilling hundreds of holes that followed I designed and 3d printed jigs which easily did the job for us.
Some Renders of the final design and a few prototypes
Stainless Steel Pins secured with C-locks for Pin Joints
Camera Box Chamber with Camera and the lid placed and held with Magnets; The partitions in the camera box were created by laser cutting aluminium plates and soldering them in Aluminium U-Chanel
Clips to Hold the free end of the Scissor Mechanism
Cross-bar for lower foldable legs with an acrylic sheet on top for aesthetic purpose
Both upper leg and lower legs are connected through an aluminium block tab and when folding is required, they can be easily pulled out. Center hole in aluminium block tab is for the elastic string that will keep the upper and lower legs connected even when disassembled/folded
The Top Frame of the table made with 1.5 inch angles and 1"x0.5" pipes, joined together with the help of brackets. It is by far the most difficult part of the assembly as everything should be aligned perfectly for squareness and flatness
All Acrylic Panels were of 5mm thickness and were laser cut
The Total Weight of the table placed in the bag in 4.1 kgs; This is the bag made for this table
The Table in Folded Form (Compact Design)
Production of Tables; the tables were powder coated in matt black for finishing
