Type Specimen Poster
This project asked students to create a custom modular typeface using 4-6 shapes and create a type specimen poster showcasing their final typeface design. Students had to design all upper and lower case letters of the alphabet, numbers 0-9, as well as select symbols:  .,?1"#@+ - (*

I named my typeface "Curva" because the main characteristic of the typeface is that all corners and the ends of line segments are curved or rounded. For my type specimen poster, I wanted to highlight the construction of my letters and the shapes that I used to create the curves. When colorizing my poster, I thought it would be fun to make my enlarged characters look like snakes because of the relation to the name "Curva".
Final Typeface
Initial Sketches
In my original sketches, I used 2 shapes: the square, and quarter circle, to create the structure for my letters. I wanted my typeface to look more bubbly and less rigid, and decided to eliminate all 90 degree angles in my characters and symbols. Once I started creating my letters digitally I added 3 shapes: the semicircle, the negative shape of the quarter circle, and the full circle (only used for periods) to make sure every corner was rounded.
