LED KITCHEN PLANTER - Plastic fabrication
Brief:
I was tasked to design and prototype a functional tabletop LED Herb planter for the kitchen/home environment.
Some of the requirements were that my design must include a minimum of 3 ‘pot’ areas to house herbs and soil that has a volume of at least 100mm x 100mm x 100mm per pot.
The planter had to be fabricated from 1.5mm white ABS plastic and left in its raw state. It must be left unpainted.
The planter must include a section of LED strip light above the herb to serve as a grow light.

Reflection:
I am very proud of my planter. It took some time and thinking to plan test and figure out how my water drainage system would work, but in my final product it works flawlessly. By watering from the top, the water flows down evenly to both of the bottom pots and then drains out through the spout.

I had some difficulty soldering wires to the thin, flimsy LED strips, but by sticking it to a little piece of ABS it had more structure and made the soldering easier and the final solder more secure.

Overall, I learnt a lot from this project and will be more comfortable to work with ABS plastic in the future.
