The Maras Group own a lot of buildings and therefore walls. When they decided this enormous concrete wall could do with some art they approached me to create a site specific piece referencing the area's market history.
The area is surrounded by beautiful carved reliefs depicting the produce which used to be sold in the former East End Markets. This piece is a contemporary interpretation of those same products, each colour matched to a fruit or vegetable.
The text East simply and plainly signposts the area, creating an increased sense of identity and place.
Created with nothing but a ruler, masking tape, chalk and paint.
