Project Statement:

This project was to create a PSA poster series covering a topic important to the designer and create several print and web advertisements to match. The designer, Skyler Bruno, is an arts management student who, as a trans student, cares deeply about anti-transgender legislation being passed in the U.S. and seeks to do something to help bring awareness.

The poster series contains two posters, one of a bathroom stall and one of a basketball on a court. Bruno sourced both images from Unsplash, photographer Tom Rogerson's bathroom stall, and photographer Ruslan Ruslan's basketball, before using Procreate to draw on top of both images to adjust their color palettes to match the transgender pride flag and feature pinks, magentas, and teals. These images are familiar to Americans and remind viewers that this legislation affects everyone, especially those closest to them. Most of the copy is in Fractul Variable, chosen for its variability and uniqueness, just enough to still be legible. The call to action of "Protect Trans Kids," however, is in Grecian Light Face, chosen for its similarity to varsity letters on letterman jackets to hammer home the school theming and force viewers to remember that the primary victims in these legislations are our students first and foremost. The advertisements use the same photography and artwork as the printed posters but with simplified headers to cut the facts and get straight to the point: transgender children are not safe in schools anymore.
