Sweet Street Responsive Website

For this project, I was prompted to create a multi-page responsive website surrounding a topic or business of my choosing. Having recently created a branding for a candy store “Sweet Street”, I thought it would be a cool idea to create the website for that. I was required to create three separate pages as well as the corresponding phone layouts. For my 3 pages, I decided to create a home page, an about page, and a shop page.
From creating this website, I wanted to learn more about User Interface.
I do not have a crazy amount of experience with web design, including
site builderslike Wix, so I was looking forward to getting some more
experience. I was also definitely excited to experiment with a scrolling
format, as I am more used to a set page formatting.
When developing my wireframes, my top priority was making the website as user friendly as possible, while still being engaging enough to keep customers on the page. Because of this, it was difficult finding a balance for how much information to include on each page. After multiple rounds of sketching, I began by using blank Wix layouts to get an idea of the capabilities of the site builder. While I took some inspiration from these blank templates, I pushed these ideas much further to give it a sense of originality.
Thankfully because I had already developed a design system for Sweet Street, figuring out how to create the website was loads easier than it would’ve been. I knew that I wanted a clean sans serif for my typography to match with that of my logotype for Sweet Street. With my branding for Sweet Street including pops of color, I knew I wanted that to carry over into the website as well.
There were many steps and revisions to creating the Sweet Street website.
Because I am not very experienced with web design, it was a lot of putting things down, seeing how it flowed, and changing to better match my vision. During the
work-in-progress critique, I felt as though I had a good foundation to work
with. Most of the heavy lifting was done in the beginning, and towards the end,
it was simply tweaking things to make it as cohesive as possible. Although
I revised a lot towards the end, the layout pretty much stayed the same - it was
just tweaks of color, typography, and positioning.

From this project, I gained much-needed skills in terms of web development. I appreciated being able to explore Wix as a resource, it was incredibly helpful and I can see myself utilizing it in the future. I also learned in order to create a sense of engagement in the user, you have to walk a fine line between including too much information and just enough to keep them on the page. I have found that the most important quality in web design is consistency. Just like branding, everything has to fall under one cohesive system for it to make visual sense to the viewer.
