Mapping a City

What makes a city? The identitification of a city is not just based on its planning, architecture or urban design. Rather, it is an intercomplexity of
networks that link the city to the people and vice versa. This project aims to map Islamabad and Rawalpindi to develop an in-depth identification,
understanding, mapping and analysis of urban scenarios.
The methodology involved a group of 8 to study a site of 2 km radius under the following parameters:
- Urban Morphology
Connectivity & Connections
- Form & Visual Quality
- Land-Use & Services Infrastructure
- Open Spaces and Landscape
- Context and Sense of Place
- People, Culture and Environment
To analyse the city in depth, the strategy adopted was extensive site visits throughout the 4-week duration of the project. The group ensured visits on weekdays, weekends and Fridays to observe the change in people, culture, traffic and conducting interviews to derive reasons. Once documentation and analysis of the city had been done, the next step would be to identify problem areas, and to identify what and how interventions could be
undertaken, This resulted in prelimenary design guidelines for the city in various nodes, junctions and areas depending on their need.
