Blank Body - "Fade Resist"

Client: Blank Body is an influential underground producer who has been one of my favorite artists for years. He has produced songs for artists such as Bladee, Night Lovell, and more. His innovative sound has influenced an entire new generation of producers who continue to innovate to this day.

Goal: to design the album cover and physical CD packaging for FADE RESIST, a collection of previously unreleased material ranging from 2014-2019.

Process/experience: Much of his artwork for previous albums both under the then Blank Body moniker and his former alias Bine involved imagery of seemingly empty malls. As a huge fan, I wanted to pay homage to this aesthetic and wanted to base the album's look and feel around a new collection of mall photos. I took a Saturday afternoon down to Chicago’s iconic Water Tower Place mall with a Canon Powershot G2 to capture a new collection of images to help strengthen the mall lore in the branding. For the typography, Blank Body wanted the text to be a reference to L’Oréal’s Féria color packaging. Using the same font utilized on the hair dye brand, I added a chrome bevel effect that pays homage to the original branding but isolating it and giving the text its own unique feel. Since these are all instrumental songs, I chose to keep the booklet minimal by adding only the song title, song length, and then a spectrogram image of each song to continue this futuristic feel.

Outcome: the album was released in a super CD case on Mutual Skies Records.
