"Still I Have Never Ever Known Love"

Still I Have Never
Ever Known Love
A large format print of a photograph of a paper/type sculpture.
This was a project for my Typography 1 class. We had to some how modify a traditional type face in an untraditional way.

We were set out to find a quote, and I selected a lyric from one of my favorite songs, "Never Known Love" by Thieves Like Us.

I started this project really confused and unsure. I struggled for days with dead-end ideas, and even went as far as to build 3D letters and stick them to my car window just to see how they looked.
Finally, after listening to the song on loop for about 20 minutes (its an amazing song by the way) I had an idea.

The photo is Helvetica Neue Bold cut out of brown construction paper, glued to white paper boxes. These are set on a stage of pink construction paper. I photographed it with my best friends fancy pants mid range SLR, and some fancy borrowed studio lights.

I like it a lot.
When I posted the project on my school's website, I was commissioned to design the New Years postcard in a similar style. This is what I created.
