A full-length documentary premiering at the Sundance Film Festival in January of 2011, REBIRTH documents the trauma, grief and recovery of five individuals in the aftermath of 9/11 as well as the ongoing redevelopment of the World Trade Center site. Project Rebirth is the nonprofit organization originally created to fund and promote the film. Since the film has wrapped, Project Rebirth has continued to use both the documentary and its subjects as a platform from which to also research, support and promote the unique preparedness needs of first responders in general as the frontline of disaster recovery. Building on the film's focus on community participation, leading figures from Hollywood, Wall Street, local government, private businesses, academic and medical institutions have united to advance educational initiatives committed to pre-trauma resiliency building and post-trauma recovery for first responders, community organizers and the general public.

Because of the production and distribution trajectory of the REBIRTH film, the Project Rebirth website has had to serve different purposes and to focus on different content over the course of several years. Knowing that would be the case, the site was planned and built for flexibility, with full content management and several multipurpose media and content areas available to the Project Rebirth team at their discretion. An accompanying REBIRTH film archive contains actual footage from the film for analysis and use in educational and training activities. As the number of resources and archives available continues to grow, the focus of the organization will likely change again, possibly incorporating any number of disaster preparedness and recovery tools and initiatives.
