Detroit Time Zero

Detroit Time Zero
The summer of 2010 i was in Detroit doing some work for Ford. I've always been fond of the city and the spirit that is still there and in fact is getting the city back on it's feet in a very grassroots way. These photos were taken with an SX-70 and a pack of Artistic Time Zero film. Artistic TZ is a peculiar film since the image begins to degrade almost immediately so there is a real sense of time (no pun intended) in getting the image stabilized. Options are to scan it and let the original degrade or to peel it or even freeze it! I don't think the film is available anymore, the last batch to be sold was from the last reserves of chemicals.

These photos are taken in the Corktown area of Detroit between the abandoned train station and Slows BBQ, opposite ends of the spectrum for Detroit, the train station is a glorious building fading away and Slows is a great example of the local revitalisation efforts.

So here's to Detroit and it's resurrection, shot by a film that knows it's dying from the instant the shutter is pressed.
