For this project I was tasked with creating a 3D logo animation for a brand or a product using Autodesk Maya’s MASH system. The animation was required to be no more than 45 seconds in length and I needed to render it using the Arnold renderer. I was required to use a selection of the techniques that I was taught over the course of the term in MASH. Some of these techniques include, dynamics, merging, duplicating, random effectors, and symmetry.

For this project I chose to animate my own logo in 3D. This logo is for my personal freelance business where I do motion graphics for clients outside of my college work. I decided to go for a sleek and clean style similar to 3D product design animations where everything has an expensive and realistic look to it. I included some digital UI elements such as the mouse pointer. In terms of animation, I mainly used the delay node in combination with the signal node to create the following effect with the blue spheres. The sequence leading up to the final logo was built from the start using close ups of each elements animating in. I animated the elements in particular directions so as to use match cuts in the editing to combine the entire project into one smooth animation.

This project was really exciting to work on. I was pleasantly surprised with Maya's MASH system when it came to creating motion graphics and I learnt a lot of skills along the way. I didn't run into too many obstacles with this project, it went quite smoothly overall which was good. If I were to change anything, I think I would work on making some of the empty space in the background a little bit more interesting, otherwise I think I captured the essence of the brief quite well.
