With the World Cup right around the corner, I wanted to make a piece promoting my favorite team in the cup, Germany. I felt it was only fitting to show my support for them using their native tongue, luckily I already had one semester of German under my belt.
"Fußball ist wie schach nur ohne würfel" is a famous quote by the German soccer player, Lukas Podolski and literally translates to,
"Football is like chess, only without the dice."
I wanted to create this piece in a more permanent, older style, so I chose to do a lithograph. I created the text by hand using a combination of brushes and inks and calligraphy pens. I then scanned the text and transferred it to the polyester printing plate.
