The Spirit of Plants

Nezahualcoyotl of Tetzcoco

The house of He Who Creates Himself can’t be
found anywhere
but our lord, our god, is invoked everywhere,
he is venerated everywhere.
We look for his glory, his fame here on Earth.
He is the one who creates all things,
he is the one who made himself god.
He is invoked everywhere,
he is venerated everywhere.
We look for his glory, his fame here on Earth.
Not a single person,
no one on this Earth,
can be the Giver of Life’s friend;
he is only invoked.
We live on Earth
by his side,
next to him.
The one who finds him
knows that this is so: he is invoked,
and we live by his side,
next to him, on Earth.
No one is really
your friend,
oh Giver of Life!
We, who live on Earth,
can only look for you
as if looking for someone
hidden among flowers
while we are by your side.

***
Let us be like the flowers, dear friend,
Blooming and flourishing in the face of adversity,
For even in the darkest of times, there is beauty,
And hope can be found amidst the thorns.

***

Oh, noble eagle soaring high,
Teach me to rise above my earthly concerns,
To see the world with clarity and grace,
And to embrace the freedom of the open skies.
