feather & twig

Feather & Twig refers to a strong personal interest in birds. The work is about the act of collecting birds, both known and unknown to me. In bird watching there is something called a life list, which traditionally refers to a list kept of all the birds you wish to see. This notion of collecting and understanding a species is explored through my work. I was inspired to create this work after I began collecting feathers for a feather collecting project I had discovered online. The project reuses feathers for ceremonial use by native tribes in Arizona. This collection allowed me to understand birds in a different way.
This is about birds, in every shape and form. An understanding of a species is formed by documenting feathers, poop and a bird’s presence in its habitat.
