Women's History Month Promo
I created a 30 second Women's History Month promotion in a modern style based off the word prompt 'nature'. Instead of using the leaf, tree, grass definition I opted for the definition regarding essential qualities or characteristics.

My concept focuses on the hands of women throughout history. We start with hands on a cave wall and continue to hands holding plants, a sword, books, ballots, backpacks, briefcases, etc. as we travel through history. The vibe is energetic, powerful, and revolutionary. Hands and items move, with quick cuts in between to create the energetic vibe. The intense color palette also reflect the energetic vibe.

I focused on specific roles women have had throughout history. Ancient women hunted with spears, viking women took charge of finances in their households. Women around the world protested for the right to vote, achieved it, and participate in democracy today. Women pursue a wide variety of roles in today's society, as judges, athletes, singers, astronauts, and more. Since this promotional video was made to be displayed in a school, Francis Tuttle, I wanted the last shot before the title to be of a student.

I also was inspired by specific women in history. Murasaki Shikibu wrote the 11th century epic tale “The Tale of Genji”, known as the worlds first novel. Hildegard of Bingen was a German monk who wrote many illuminated manuscripts during the High Middle Ages. Tomoe Gozen was an onna-musha fighting alongside samurai in pre-modern Japan. Rosalind Franklin was a British chemist who revealed the double helix of DNA. Ruth Bader Ginsburg was a Supreme Court justice who fought gender discrimination. Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

Some changes were made from the animatic to the final animation. I took out the rosary in the illuminated manuscript shot to prevent the shot from being too cluttered. I also had the student turn to face the camera instead of walk to create a more personal, powerful vibe.

I used parenting and parallax in After Effects to make my 2D assets seem to move in 3D space.
I used Procreate for the brainstorm, moodboard, and thumbnails. I used Storyboard Pro for the storyboard/animatic. Adobe Illustrator was used for the creation of all the assets. Adobe After Effects was used for all the animation and compositing.
