Primordial Ink is a collection of collage and ink sketches that I made in response to the popular online Inktober challenge, in the autumns of 2017 and 2021. I devised a specific methodology, whereby I took the Inktober prompt word for each day of October, and Google Image searched for a photograph that in some way connected for me with the theme. I printed those out in black & white, cut out a piece of the image and stuck that to a sheet of A3 paper, and then later, I returned to each page with ink, freeing myself completely from the original theme, responding to the collaged element and allowing the picture to assume new meaning through the process of making. This was a process that I have continued in some ways in other projects, beginning with adherence to a theme, and then allowing the work to be developed through more subconscious image making.

A selection of 32 of the drawings were collected and published in a Risograph zine by Sputnikat in 2022 as part of the Risunki series of artist books.
