BRIEF
We were tasked with creating a growing system. The plant is the centre role player in this project and research the required and specific living conditions for the plant chosen. The design outcome should be able to fit comfortably onto of a table. The design should be a centre piece that is either educational or an interior piece.

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS
Set forward by the United Nations in 2015, the sustainable development goals are a collection of 17 global goals aimed at improving the planet and the quality of human life around the world by the year 2030.
In this project we given 4 goals:
1. SDG 2- end hunger, achieve food security and improve nutrition.
2. SDG 3- ensure health lives and promote well-being.
3. SDG 4- ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and life-long learning.
4. SDG 8- promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
The plant that I have chosen is a Brazil Philodendron. This plant has few needs in order to service and is know and a good house plant. As someone who is not very skilled in taking care of plants, I thought this plant would be a good gateway to show viewers how easy it is to cultivate plants.

MANUFACTURING PROCESS
Using a variety of hole saws, I cut out the platforms for my growing system.
I then varnished my platforms. I needed to sand the varnish in-between each layer to try and achieve a clean surface finish.
I then got started on heat forming the plastic. I stuck objects together using masking tape to help with the process, and did a few test runs.
After heat bending the plastic into form, I measured out placements for the dowel sticks and used a dremel to cut the shape out. With all the different components complete, I began to assemble my growing system.

REFLECTION
This project was quite nerve wrecking as I have never been good with plants, yet alone designing a growing system. I struggled with keeping the clear plastic clean due to glue smudges, fingerprint marks on the varnished platform and sealing the water containers. However, I have learnt a lot from this project. My main goal was to design a growing system that anyone could use to show that you don not need to be well acquainted with plants in order to grow them. I think this speaks to the SDGs mentioned. I hope to improve the functionality of my design.
