During my time as a senior product designer at Wholechain, one of my responsibilities was to develop a feature, that connected Wholechain's blockchain with the existing GSA application. This integration allowed clients certified by GSA to utilize it as a tool for traceability.

Client’s story
GSA, short for the Global Seafood Alliance, is dedicated to advancing responsible seafood practices worldwide through a multifaceted approach encompassing education, advocacy, and demonstration. At the heart of GSA's mission is the collaboration between seafood industry leaders, academia, and NGOs to address cross-cutting issues such as environmental and social responsibility, animal health and welfare, food safety, and beyond. Serving as a nexus for knowledge exchange and collective action, GSA brings together diverse stakeholders to drive positive change in the seafood industry. As a membership-driven organization, GSA's membership base comprises certified producers, corporations, and individuals committed to promoting sustainable seafood practices and fostering a more ethical and resilient seafood supply chain.
The problem
The central issue at hand pertained to the development of a robust solution that would empower GSA to harness the capabilities of Wholechain's blockchain infrastructure. This solution aimed to seamlessly integrate with GSA's operations, facilitating the delivery of a comprehensive traceability feature tailored specifically for its certified members, thereby enhancing transparency and accountability within the seafood supply chain ecosystem.
My Solution
A comprehensive solution was sought to address the need for a simplified and adaptable workflow, allowing for the integration of APIs from diverse suppliers. This solution aimed to transcend the confines of solely relying on Wholechain's blockchain, thereby future-proofing the system for potential expansions and evolving requirements.
The envisioned integration process would commence by leveraging the API key provided by the supplier who possesses the chain associated with the particular product. This approach not only streamlined the integration process but also ensured that the system remained agile and responsive to changes in supplier networks or technology landscapes. Upon successful integration, certified members would gain access to a myriad of features meticulously crafted to offer granular insights into the journey of their products through the supply chain. These features would encompass real-time tracking capabilities, comprehensive shipment analytics, and customizable reporting functionalities, empowering members to make informed decisions and uphold their commitment to transparency and accountability.
